Friends of the Museum of Decorative Arts, Berlin State Museums
For over thirty years, the association has been committed to the long-term promotion of applied art from the Middle Ages to the present day, as well as arts and crafts, design and fashion.
The Berlin Museum of Decorative Arts is the oldest museum of its kind in Germany and, with its outstanding collections, ranks among the world’s leading institutions in the fields of applied art, design and fashion. The Julius Lessing Society, named after the museum’s first director, has set itself the following tasks in support of the Museum of Decorative Arts:
- the promotion of publicity campaigns that raise public awareness of the Museum of Decorative Arts;
- the expansion of the collection through the acquisition of works of art donated to the museum or provided on permanent loan;
- the promotion of academic and research-oriented work on applied art, design and fashion,
- the promotion of exhibitions, publications and other events that can stimulate, deepen and broaden interest in the Museum of Decorative Arts,
- the promotion of effective publicity measures that raise the Museum of Decorative Arts’ profile among the general public.
