Freunde Guter Musik Berlin e.V.

Since its foundation in 1983, Freunde Guter Musik Berlin e.V. has been dedicated to presenting and promoting new music and music in new forms. Numerous international, German and Berlin-based artists have been invited to present their work at selected venues across the city. Most of these artists defy the usual categories of the music scene; they operate on the experimental fringes of the genres and in the borderlands between music, visual and performing arts. Composer-performances, minimal music and its offshoots, advanced improvisations, music with ethnic and folk roots, music played on newly invented, rediscovered or modified instruments, live electronic music, but also sound art – acoustic installations, environments, sound sculptures, musical media art and musical works by visual artists – broadly outline the scope of Freunde Guter Musik’s work. Through their activities, they have taken on a pioneering role in Berlin’s music and art scene and paved the way for many artists, who often performed in Berlin for the first time and, in some cases, launched their international careers from here.
