Maria Maggiore and San Pietro<br>Christina Kubisch in collaboration with Frank Paul and Tom Thiel<br>Rome 2025<br><br>\u2018Electrical Jubilee\u2019 is a project realised thanks to regional funding for the CdE &#8211; DTC Lazio<br><br>With \u2018Electrical Jubilee\u2019, Christina Kubisch explores Rome, creating a fascinating work of electromagnetic survey and mapping of the areas surrounding the four papal basilicas: St Peter\u2019s in the Vatican, St John Lateran, St Mary Major and St Paul Outside the Walls. The final result is the creation of a sort of soundtrack running parallel to the vision of a Rome profoundly reshaped by construction sites and the flow of pilgrims for the 2025 Jubilee. Offering participants in the Roman Electrical Walks experience a unique practice of active, individualised listening, within a form of gentle, sustainable tourism. He is joined by Saba Arat and G\u00f6khan Dene\u00e7, who play the davul, a double-headed cylindrical drum widely used in the Middle East and the Balkans and a precursor to the Western bass drum. Suspended from the left shoulder by a strap, it is struck on the upper surface with a heavy mallet. The lower surface is played with a thin stick, producing a rattling sound similar to that of a snare drum.
