Christina Kubisch – Electrical Jubilee 2025
ELECTRICAL JUBILEE
Electrical Walks in the areas of S. Maria Maggiore and San Pietro
Christina Kubisch in collaboration with Frank Paul and Tom Thiel
Rome 2025
‘Electrical Jubilee’ is a project realised thanks to regional funding for the CdE – DTC Lazio
With ‘Electrical Jubilee’, Christina Kubisch explores Rome, creating a fascinating work of electromagnetic survey and mapping of the areas surrounding the four papal basilicas: St Peter’s in the Vatican, St John Lateran, St Mary Major and St Paul Outside the Walls. The final result is the creation of a sort of soundtrack running parallel to the vision of a Rome profoundly reshaped by construction sites and the flow of pilgrims for the 2025 Jubilee. Offering participants in the Roman Electrical Walks experience a unique practice of active, individualised listening, within a form of gentle, sustainable tourism. In a fruitful union between ecological-acoustic and environmental investigation and aesthetic-social form.

BERGAMA STEREO
Live Mixing: Cevdet Erek | Davul: Cevdet Erek, Gökhan Deneç, Saba Arat
Cevdet Erek performs a live remix of the 34 separate audio channels from his installation Bergama Stereo. He is joined by Saba Arat and Gökhan Deneç, who play the davul, a double-headed cylindrical drum widely used in the Middle East and the Balkans and a precursor to the Western bass drum. Suspended from the left shoulder by a strap, it is struck on the upper surface with a heavy mallet. The lower surface is played with a thin stick, producing a rattling sound similar to that of a snare drum. Erek plays his davul in his own unique style, subtly altering its sound in the finest nuances.
