AFRIKAMERA 2026
REFLECT
09 – 15 NOV 2026

From 2024 to 2027, the AFRIKAMERA film festival – CURRENT CINEMA FROM AFRICA – will focus on the themes BELIEVE * CHANGE * REFLECT and CREATE, highlighting diverse perspectives on key social and political issues facing the African continent today and in the future.

The African continent is one of the regions of the world most severely affected by climate change: drought, aridity, the exploitation of natural resources and demographic pressures, combined with often extreme poverty, mean that for a large part of the continent, issues of distributive justice and environmental concerns are of particular urgency in the context of sustainable development.

This year’s theme REFLECT focuses on a selection of feature films, documentaries and short films which, on the one hand, examine the impact of colonialism on the ecological balance, climate change and the struggle for resources, the exploitation of nature by unscrupulous mining companies, and the ‘white saviourism’ of NGOs. Other films give a voice to (influential) local environmental activists and evoke the mystical power of nature: earth, water, roots – what is lost when land is viewed solely as a resource?

Beyond this year’s thematic focus, there are international festival highlights to discover, as well as a diverse programme of discussions.

The full programme for AFRIKAMERA 2026 will be published in the autumn.
